Andrea Likwornik Weiss Partner
Andrea Likwornik Weiss is a litigator who has tried more than 45 cases, conducted many evidentiary hearings, and argued numerous appeals in federal and state courts. Her practice focuses on white collar criminal defense and commercial litigation.
Ms. Weiss has represented clients in connection with federal and state regulatory and criminal proceedings, providing counsel on navigating complex government investigations and prosecutions. Drawing on her extensive trial experience, she has successfully resolved matters for clients at both the pre- and post-indictment stage. In a recent matter, she persuaded the United States Department of Justice to dismiss a health care fraud indictment shortly before trial based on substantial flaws in the government’s proof uncovered by her investigation.
Ms. Weiss also has a diverse civil litigation practice, with a concentration in retail and investment banking matters. She has successfully defended cases arising under the securities laws, the Uniform Commercial Code, and other laws pertaining to financial institutions.
Prior to joining LLF in 2001, Ms. Weiss was a prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where she also served as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. As an Assistant United States Attorney, she handled a wide variety of white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions, including matters involving securities fraud, bank fraud, public corruption, and environmental crimes. For her work in the Southern District, she received both the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service and the Director's Award for Superior Performance. Prior to joining the Southern District, Ms. Weiss was an Assistant District Attorney in Kings County, where she prosecuted homicides and other major offenses. She began her career at a major New York law firm, where she was a litigation associate.
In addition to her law practice, Ms. Weiss has been involved in many professional and educational activities. She has taught classes on trial practice and complex grand jury investigations to practicing lawyers, and has been an adjunct associate professor at Hunter College of the City University of New York, where she taught a moot court class to undergraduates. Ms. Weiss is a member of the Federal Bar Council and the New York City Bar Association, where she currently serves on the Pro Bono Committee. She previously served on the Government Counsel, Criminal Law, Criminal Advocacy and Judiciary Committees of the City Bar, as well as co-chaired a continuing legal education program on federal criminal practice.
Ms. Weiss was selected for inclusion in New York Metro Super Lawyers 2010 and 2013 editions. She is a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society.
