Andrea Likwornik Weiss Partner

Andrea Likwornik Weiss is a litigator who has tried more than 45 cases, conducted many evidentiary hearings, and argued numerous appeals in federal and state courts.  Her practice focuses on white collar criminal defense and commercial litigation.

Ms. Weiss has represented clients in connection with federal and state regulatory and criminal proceedings, providing counsel on navigating complex government investigations and prosecutions.  Drawing on her extensive trial experience, she has successfully resolved matters for clients at both the pre- and post-indictment stage.  In recent years, her tenacious investigations and vigorous advocacy have led both the United States Department of Justice and the Manhattan District Attorney's office to dismiss cases after charges were filed.  In one case, prosecutors not only dropped the charges against her client, they also indicted the witness against him.  Ms. Weiss has represented clients in cases involving allegations of securities fraud, accounting fraud, medicare fraud, and grand larceny among others.

Ms. Weiss also has a diverse civil litigation practice, with a concentration in retail and investment banking matters.  She has successfully defended cases arising under the securities laws, the Uniform Commercial Code, and other laws pertaining to financial institutions.

Prior to joining LLFW in 2001, Ms. Weiss was a prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where she also served as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division.  As an Assistant United States Attorney, she handled a wide variety of white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions, including matters involving securities fraud, public corruption, financial crimes, and environmental crimes.  For her work in the Southern District, she received both the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service and the Director's Award for Superior Performance.

In addition to her law practice, Ms. Weiss has been involved in many professional and educational activities.  She has taught classes on trial practice and complex grand jury investigations to practicing lawyers, and has been an adjunct associate professor at Hunter College of the City University of New York, where she taught a moot court class to undergraduates.

Ms. Weiss is a member of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, the Federal Bar Council, and the New York City Bar Association. She has served on the Government Counsel, Criminal Law, Criminal Advocacy, Judiciary, and Pro Bono Committees of the City Bar, as well as co-chaired a continuing legal education program on federal criminal practice. She also serves on the Board of the Scholarship and Welfare Fund of the Alumni Association of Hunter College.

Ms. Weiss was selected for inclusion in New York Metro Super Lawyers 2010 and 2013-15 editions. In the 2015 edition, she was listed as one of the top 50 women lawyers: She is a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society.
